EPUB to KEPUB → for Kobo

Convert EPUB books to Kobo's own KEPUB format, so sideloaded books behave like store books: faster page turns, reading statistics and time left in chapter. Drop a whole library at once.

How to convert EPUB to KEPUB

  1. Drop your .epub files onto the box above, or click it to pick them. Kindle MOBI, AZW3 and KFX books work too and are converted on the way.
  2. Download each .kepub.epub file, or click Download all for one ZIP.
  3. Connect your Kobo by USB and copy the files onto it. Eject the Kobo and the books appear in your library.

Why KEPUB

Kobo e-readers open plain EPUB with an older rendering engine. Books in KEPUB format use the same engine as books from the Kobo store, which brings faster page turns, reading statistics, time left in the chapter and book, and better font and margin controls.

The file name matters

A Kobo only treats a book as KEPUB when the file name ends in .kepub.epub. Keep that ending when you rename files, or the Kobo opens them as plain EPUB.

What changes in the book

Nothing you would see as a reader. The converter, kepubify, adds the span markers Kobo uses to track reading position and applies a few compatibility fixes. Text, images and the table of contents stay as they are.

Is my book uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in this page with open-source engines compiled to WebAssembly. The engine downloads once the first time you convert and your browser caches it. Your files never leave your device, and there is no account or file-size quota. The KEPUB engine is kepubify.

Does it work with Kobo Libra, Clara and Sage?

Yes. KEPUB is read by all current Kobo e-readers, including the Libra, Clara, Sage, Elipsa and Forma.

Can I convert a Kindle book for my Kobo?

Yes, if it is DRM-free. Drop the MOBI, AZW3 or KFX file and it is converted to EPUB and then to KEPUB in one step.
