Safe ID Copy · Cover Numbers, Mark the Purpose
Asked for a copy of your ID card, passport or driving licence? Straighten the photo, cover the numbers the recipient doesn't need, and mark the copy with who it is for. Save a print-ready PDF.
How to make a safe copy of your ID
- Choose the document type and drop a photo of the front, and of the back if needed. A phone photo is fine.
- Drag the four corner markers onto the corners of the card and click Straighten. The card is flattened to its real size.
- Tick the fields to cover. The boxes start in typical positions; drag and resize them to fit your document exactly, or draw extra boxes.
- Fill in who the copy is for, the purpose and the date, then save the PDF or JPG.
What the safe copy does
A copy of an ID can be misused to open accounts or take out loans in your name. A safe copy limits the damage: the numbers that matter most for fraud are covered, and a repeating watermark across the document states who the copy was given to, for what and when. Anyone else trying to use it would have to explain why it says it belongs to your landlord's rental file.
Typical fields to cover are the personal identification number, the document number, the machine-readable zone at the bottom (it repeats both numbers plus your date of birth) and, on newer cards, the six-digit card access number. Photo, signature and address are optional. This mirrors the approach of official safe-copy apps such as the Dutch government's KopieID.
Print-ready and readable
The PDF places the front and back on an A4 page at their true size, in greyscale, with a caption repeating the purpose and date, ready to print or send. The watermark is semi-transparent, so your name and the other details the recipient needs stay legible.
Frequently asked questions
Why solid boxes instead of blurring?
Blurred or pixelated numbers can often be read again with software. Solid boxes leave nothing behind, and the copy is saved as a flat image.
Is my ID uploaded?
No. The photo of your document is processed in your browser tab and never leaves your device.
