Photo Privacy · Hide Faces, Plates & Text
Black out, pixelate or blur faces, licence plates, house numbers, names and screens before you share a photo. The saved copy has its location and camera data removed.
How to hide part of a photo
- Drop one or more photos onto the box above.
- Pick Solid fill, Pixelate or Blur and drag over what should disappear. Add as many boxes as you need; each keeps its own style.
- Crop or rotate if you like, then save the photo or all photos as a ZIP.
Which method to use
- Solid fill is the only safe choice for text and numbers: names, number plates, account numbers, addresses, screens. Nothing of the original survives.
- Pixelate works for faces and objects. The blocks are kept large, at least an eighth of the box, and noise is added, because fine pixelation can be partly undone.
- Blur looks the softest but hides the least. Blurred faces and text can sometimes be reconstructed, so use it only where that does not matter.
Hidden data removed
Photos carry more than the picture: GPS coordinates, the date and time, the camera or phone model and often its serial number. The saved copy is drawn fresh from the edited picture, so none of that is included. The original file name can also reveal the date (IMG_20240712...); "neutral file name" saves it as photo-1.jpg instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can the black boxes be removed again?
No. They are painted into the pixels and the image is saved flat, so nothing hidden underneath remains in the file.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Photos are edited in your browser tab and never leave your device. Large photos are edited on a reduced copy for speed and saved at full resolution.
