Convert Video to MP4 · MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI

Turn any video into an MP4 that opens almost everywhere. iPhone MOV files convert in seconds at any size, and other formats are repackaged without re-encoding whenever their picture already fits in an MP4.

Videos are processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to convert a video to MP4

  1. Drop one or more videos onto the box above. Each one shows what will happen to it.
  2. Keep Keep quality selected, or choose Maximum compatibility if the MP4 must play on old devices.
  3. Click Convert to MP4 and save each result.

Why most conversions are instant

A video file is a container (MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI) holding a compressed picture and sound. Most modern videos already use H.264 or HEVC picture and AAC sound, which MP4 holds too, so converting only means repackaging. iPhone MOV and MP4 even share the same structure, so the tool rebuilds the file as MP4 directly in your browser, at any size, keeping the recording date and location.

Matroska (MKV) files from OBS or screen recorders are repackaged with FFmpeg the same way. Their sound is converted to AAC when it is Opus, Vorbis, FLAC or PCM, because many MP4 players can't play those, and text subtitles become MP4 subtitles.

When the picture is re-encoded

Old codecs such as WMV, DivX/Xvid in some AVI files, MPEG-2 from DVDs and camcorders, VP8 or ProRes don't fit in an MP4, so they are converted to H.264. That takes longer and happens in browser memory, which limits it to about 900 MB on a computer. In Maximum compatibility mode HEVC, VP9 and AV1 are converted too.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting to MP4 lose quality?

Usually not: the picture is moved into the MP4 unchanged. Only incompatible sound is converted, or the picture when the codec doesn't fit in an MP4.
