Kindle books to EPUB
Drop a DRM-free MOBI, AZW, AZW3, KFX or old Mobipocket PRC file and get an EPUB that opens in Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books and every other reader. Old Kindle formatting is rewritten as standard CSS and broken internal links are repaired along the way, so the EPUB is clean rather than just readable.
Ebooks for Kindle
Amazon's Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and converts it for your device, so an EPUB from this page is all a Kindle needs. Amazon no longer takes MOBI for new books. If you copy books to a Kindle over USB instead, choose Kindle AZW3. That output is marked experimental: it works on the books we tested, but check it on your device.
Kobo KEPUB
Kobo e-readers open plain EPUB, but sideloaded books in Kobo's own KEPUB format turn pages faster and show reading statistics and time-left estimates. Choose Kobo KEPUB and copy the .kepub.epub file to your Kobo over USB.
Ebooks for Apple Books and others
Apple Books, Google Play Books, PocketBook, Tolino and most reading apps open EPUB directly. The EPUB 3 files made here include a table of contents, language and title metadata, and keep images and footnotes.
Converting to PDF
The PDF is typeset from the book's text with clean typography, page numbers, clickable links and bookmarks for every chapter, ready to print or read on a tablet.
Making a book from a text file
Plain text books, such as old downloads or your own drafts, become proper ebooks. Paragraphs that were wrapped at a fixed width are joined again, chapter lines become headings and table-of-contents entries, and the text encoding is detected automatically, including older Windows encodings for Central European and Cyrillic text.
DRM
This tool works with DRM-free books: public-domain titles, your own writing and books sold without copy protection. It cannot convert books protected by DRM and does not try to remove it.
Is my book uploaded?
No. Everything runs in this page with open-source engines compiled to WebAssembly: boko for Kindle formats, kepubify for Kobo and Pandoc for everything else. They download once (about 1 MB for Kindle books, 1.4 MB for Kobo, 13 MB for Pandoc) and your browser caches them. The converter's source is published under the GNU GPL.
