How to open a CBR or CBZ file online

  1. Drop the .cbr or .cbz file onto the box above, or click to choose it.
  2. Click the first image to open the preview, then use the next and previous buttons to move through the pages.
  3. To export, download single pages, a selection, or all images as one .zip.

Comic archives are renamed RAR and ZIP files

A .cbz is a ZIP archive of page images and a .cbr is a RAR archive of the same thing. The different extension only tells a comic reader app to open them. Without such an app, the file does nothing when you double-click it, and RAR in particular has no built-in support on most systems.

This page opens both, including RAR4 and RAR5, and shows the pages as an image list sorted by name. Pages inside a subfolder, such as one folder per chapter, are reached through the folder tree.

Reading in the preview

Clicking an image opens it in the preview with next and previous buttons, so you can read an issue from start to finish. It is an image viewer, not a full comic reader: there is no two-page spread, no right-to-left mode and no remembered reading position. For a quick read or for checking that a file is complete and in order, it does the job.

Exporting pages and turning CBR into CBZ

Pages are stored as normal JPEG, PNG or WebP files, and extraction gives them back unchanged, without recompression. Download one page, tick a range, or take everything. In Chrome and Edge, Save to folder writes all pages into a directory you pick.

Downloading everything as a .zip also converts a CBR for readers that only accept CBZ: rename the downloaded file from .zip to .cbz. Your comics are opened on your device and are not uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a CBR file without a comic reader?

Drop it on this page. The pages are listed as images, and clicking one opens a preview with next and previous buttons.

Can I convert CBR to CBZ?

Yes. Open the CBR, download all files as a .zip, then rename the file extension to .cbz. A CBZ is a ZIP archive of images, so no further conversion is needed.

Can I extract the images from a comic archive?

Yes. Pages are regular image files. Download them one at a time, as a selection, or all together. They are copied out unchanged.

Can I turn a comic into a PDF?

Not in one step here. Export the page images, then load them into the Images to PDF tool.

Are the pages in the right order?

The list is sorted by file name, which is how comic archives define page order. If pages are numbered without leading zeros, check the order in the list before exporting.
