Extract .cab Files Online
Open a Microsoft .cab cabinet and take out the drivers, DLLs or setup files inside, on any desktop operating system.
How to extract a CAB file online
- Drop the
.cabfile onto the box above. If the cabinet is split into several parts, drop all of them at once. - Browse or search the list. Click a file to preview it or to see its size, date and checksum.
- Download single files, or download everything as one archive.
What a CAB file is and where it comes from
Cabinet is Microsoft’s own archive format. You meet it as a driver package downloaded from a hardware vendor or an update catalogue, as the data files next to an old setup.exe, or as the payload embedded in a Windows installer.
Windows can look inside a cabinet on its own. macOS, Linux and ChromeOS cannot, and that is usually when people land here: a driver or firmware file has to be pulled out on a machine that is not running Windows, or on a Windows machine where one specific .inf, .sys or .dll is needed without running a setup program.
Multi-part cabinets
Large products were often shipped as a set of cabinets, such as data1.cab, data2.cab and so on, where a file can start in one part and end in the next. Drop all the parts together and they are read as one set. If a part is missing, only the files that are complete can be extracted.
Limits worth knowing
Cabinets created by InstallShield share the .cab extension (typically a data1.cab next to a data1.hdr) but are a different format, and they are not supported. File names stored in an old regional code page rather than plain ASCII may come out garbled, because the file name encoding fix on this site applies to ZIP files only.
The cabinet is opened locally and is not transmitted anywhere, which also means there is no upload to wait for with a large driver bundle.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a CAB file on a Mac or on Linux?
Drop it on this page in a current desktop browser. The cabinet is read in the browser, so no Windows machine and no extra software is needed.
Can I extract a driver from a CAB without installing it?
Yes. The tool lists the contents and lets you download the .inf, .sys, .cat or any other file. Nothing is installed or executed.
My cabinet is split into several files. What do I do?
Select or drop all parts together. They are treated as one cabinet set. A file that continues into a missing part cannot be extracted.
Why does my data1.cab not open?
It is probably an InstallShield cabinet, which uses a different format despite the same extension. InstallShield cabinets and installers are not supported here.
Can I check whether a CAB file is damaged?
Yes. The Test button reads every file in the cabinet, verifies it and reports the ones that are damaged.
