GIF to MP4 · animated GIF to video
Turn animated GIFs into MP4 or WebM videos that are often 80–95% smaller, with the GIF's exact frame timing. Transparent GIFs get a background colour of your choice, or stay transparent as WebM.

- Drop one or more animated GIFs onto the box above. Each one shows its size, frame count and length.
- Keep MP4 for sharing anywhere, or pick WebM for a website, especially if the GIF is transparent.
- Click Convert, check the preview in the list and save each video.
Why a video is so much smaller than a GIF
A GIF stores every frame as a separate picture with at most 256 colours, compressed with the same method as a ZIP file. Video codecs like H.264 only store what changes between frames and describe smooth colour gradients far more efficiently, so the same animation typically shrinks to a tenth or a twentieth of the size, with fewer dithering dots.
That is why X, Reddit and Imgur quietly turn uploaded GIFs into videos. On your own website, a short muted video loads much faster than the GIF it replaces:

Exact timing, transparency and pixel art
GIFs can give every frame its own delay, such as a long pause on the last frame. The converter keeps each delay to the hundredth of a second instead of forcing a fixed frame rate, and treats delays of 0 or 1 hundredths the way browsers do. MP4 has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick; WebM can keep them transparent. The 2×, 3× and 4× sizes enlarge pixel art with hard edges instead of blurring it, which also helps when a platform re-compresses small videos.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert a GIF to MP4?
The video is often 80–95% smaller with smoother colours, loads faster and can be posted where GIFs are not accepted.
Does the video keep the GIF's speed?
Yes, every frame keeps its own delay to the hundredth of a second.
What happens to transparent parts of the GIF?
MP4 fills them with the background colour you pick. WebM can keep them transparent in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
Will the video loop like the GIF?
Video files don't loop on their own; websites use the loop attribute and most social apps loop short clips. If you need a longer clip, play the animation 2 to 10 times inside the video.
Are my GIFs uploaded?
No. The conversion runs with FFmpeg inside your browser tab, on your own device.
